Look down into a mirror
Keep the chin level and lower the gaze so the upper lash roots are visible without pulling the lid.

Press, do not draw
Press brown pigment between lash roots in short sections; keep it off the waterline unless labeled for that use.

Check from the front
Return to a neutral gaze and remove any visible gaps rather than thickening the whole line.
